Update March 20 2023

Quiz News

Finally – we believe the episode of Eggheads featuring Sandbach u3a quizmaster Julie Clarke, her husband Ian, Kevin Dean and Ian Turpin will finally be broadcast this evening, Monday 20th March, on Channel 5 at 6.30pm!

Monthly Quiz

The March quiz from Julie Clarke has been loaded to the website and is ready for you to test your general knowledge. (Our quiz page lists all the quizzes that have been set previously.)

u3a Quiz Night

The next u3a quiz is arranged for Wednesday 12th April in St Mary’s Church Hall, Sandbach. Julie Clarke will devise the questions and operate the microphone on the night. The hall will open at 7pm and the questions will start at 7:30. Each team may have up to six members, who should a) bring their own drinks and snacks and b) pay the £1.50 entry fee per team member.

This is a popular event, and the hall allows only 24 teams so prompt action is required. The only way to participate is to send an email in March to kev1dea2@gmail.com. The email should contain the name of your team and its captain. The organiser will respond to every entry received to confirm your place in the quiz. If you don’t receive a response within a week, you should resend your application because the organiser did not receive it.

Local News

U3a member Lesley Farrar writes “I’ve  been collecting stamps for The British Hedgehog Preservation Society for quite a while and recently forwarded a thank you letter from their Stamp Elf to the u3a choir (who have been collecting for me).
If you would like to help with the collection stamps could be left at a Members  morning, deposited within the u3a post box in the library or dropped through my letter box at 7 Eaton Close I’d be delighted to forward them. As stamps are usually just discarded, cutting them off envelopes and saving them could in turn help our prickly pals. A good deed which costs nothing!

And Finally

Some walking jokes from u3a Tawa, New Zealand:

·      My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he’s 97 years old and we  have no idea where he is.

·      I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

·      I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I’m doing…

·      Every time I hear the dirty word ‘exercise’, I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

·      I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

·      If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

·      I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years …… just getting over the hill.

·      We all get heavier as we get older, because there’s a lot more information in our heads.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

·      Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a pub with a Happy Hour and by  the time I leave, I look just fine.

·      You could run this over to your friends but just e-mail it to them! It will save you the walk!
