A talk from the Educational Team at Stapeley Grange Wildlife Hospital and Cattery in Nantwich.
Jean is an avid reader of Cheshire History and is very proud that her own family roots are in Cheshire. She is the author of 3 books about this area but calls herself a Chronicler rather than an author.
She and her husband, Godfrey, lived at Marsh Green Farm in Elworth for 6 years from 1977. They then moved to Hope Farm in Bradwall, where they lived and worked. Both farms were under domain to the Barlow family as the Lord of the Manor.
Her talk will overlap details of Sandbach, a slant to Hope Street, more enlightenment on Pipers Hollow regarding the Scots Common skirmish and why she believes Bradwall is Roman. The DeHelleworth (Elworth) and Richard De Sandbach fall out regarding playing bowls and Dragons Lane gaining its name in Norman times.
Jean would also like to expand our knowledge of local history by explaining the ‘leys‘…Winterley or Ettiley, the’ham’ …. Warmingham and ‘tons’ …. Haslington and Moston.
The group was established in 2016 by three Lostock Gralam residents with the group steadily increasing in size and confidence since. The group play the Ukulele for free and any amounts raised are donated towards patient care at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford. They have performed at Ukulele Festivals and plucked strings all over Cheshire, visiting organisations from Hoylake to Nantwich and Lymm, as well as several in Mid-Cheshire.
The Lostock Ukes has chosen to support St Luke’s Hospice as its charity.
