Sandbach & District u3a AGM

Our 2021 AGM takes place on November 1st at 9.30 in the Town Hall. All members have received copies of the AGM papers and access to voting. Because we intend to keep the face to face meeting as brief as possible we’d appreciate members voting beforehand, if they are able.  The link to both papers and voting is here https://sandbachu3a.org.uk/2021-agm-papers-voting-form/

If you share a computer with another member of your household, once the first person has voted, close the voting form and re-open the link from our u3a website for other people to be able to vote.

Members’ Morning

Our next members’ morning will follow the AGM on November 1st in the Town Hall. The speaker will be Stephen Shakeshaft who is a registered Chester City Guide and he will tell us stories behind various features of this delightful and interesting city

Sandbach u3a Quiz Night

Join us at St Mary’s Church Hall in Sandbach for our u3a quiz on 10 November 2021 starting at 19:30. Julie Clarke will put the quiz together and Jim Thompson will provide the PA system. I will do the scoring as usual.

There will be space for 24 teams of 6 people each paying £1 to enter. The prize will be the money left over from the hire fee. It is traditional for the teams to bring their own food and drink but we will not be using the hall kitchen.

I will take bookings on my email address: kev1dea2@gmail.com

We’re pleased to report that membership renewals are almost back to pre-Covid levels. Anyone who has not renewed by the end of October will be assumed to be a lapsed member and automatically removed from any groups or events that they’ve previously attended. If you’re not sure about your membership please visit our website, call in to the u3a library desk on 27th November 9.30 – 11.30 or contact membership@sandbachu3a.org.uk

Vale Royal Crematorium visit organised our Death Café group

Wednesday 27th October 2021, at 9am. Open to all u3a members, not just those who attend Death Cafe

We are able to pay a behind-the-scenes visit to Vale Royal Crematorium, where staff are happy to answer any questions, and perhaps dispel a few myths. (And last time a U3A group paid a visit, they gave us cake!)

If you have ever wondered whether you might be asked to deliver a eulogy or do a reading at a funeral, you can experience speaking from the lectern, and pressing the button to close the curtains while the chapel is closed to the public. Visiting the behind the scenes section of the crematorium is entirely optional – take part in the tour as much or as little as you wish.

There is no charge for the visit but we need to be there for 9am. I have 6 places still available. I will send out confirmation and joining instructions before 24th at the latest.

Contact Shena if you are interested via https://u3a.simplemembership.co.uk/Sandbach/groups. Make sure you are logged in, visit the Death Café group and click on the envelope icon near the top of the page.)

HollieGuard
A u3a member has told us about a free personal safety phone app that is being recommended by several police forces. See https://www.lincs.police.uk/news-campaigns/news/2021/download-free-personal-safety-app-hollie-guard/ for details.
