Lion Salt Works and Anderton Boat Lift 04 Jun 2020 Costing £26

This trip visits two sites in Northwich connected to the salt trade, which once occupied large numbers of workers in Cheshire.

The recently restored Lion Salt Works in Marston is the first stop and you will see how the labourers shovelled salt crystals out of the boiling water into moulds to dry. Following the guided tour in the salt works, you travel the short distance to the Anderton Boat Lift which allowed narrowboats to switch from the Trent and Mersey Canal to the River Weaver. The stay at Anderton allows you to travel up or down in the Boat Lift and cruise along the River Weaver.

The coach leaves the Military Arms at 10am.
