Local News

Here’s an opportunity that some of you will welcome:

– if you are a grandparent, but miss reading to your grandchildren now they are a bit older . . .
– if you have never had any grandchildren and feel you have missed out on reading to them . . .
– if you are an ex-primary teacher and miss reading to the children . . .
– if you are an ex-secondary teacher and wish your job had included reading to children . . .

then this could be just what you have been waiting for.

Call for Volunteer Readers – St Johns C of E Primary School
The children and teachers at St Johns C of E Primary School, Heath Road, Sandbach  CW11 2LE are looking for some volunteers who would be happy to come into the school and listen to some children read.
We are looking for a commitment of up to one hour a week either on a Monday or a Wednesday afternoon. We would like volunteers to listen to a range of children across the school from Reception to Year 6. We would suggest a start time of 1:15pm which ties in with the end of the children’s lunch time.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Ellie Steele by email, esteele@stjohnssandbach.co.uk

The school will provide guidance on things like what questions you might ask the children, what to do if they appear to be struggling, and so on. The school will also arrange a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check to make sure that anybody volunteering in school doesn’t have a criminal conviction which excludes them from working with children.

Stamp Appeal

As cards start to drop through your letter box  Lesley Farrer would like to remind you about her appeal for stamps to support The British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
If you would like to help with the collection, stamps could be left at a Members  morning, deposited within the u3a post box in the library or dropped through Lesley’s letter box at 7 Eaton Close in Sandbach.
