Sandbach u3a Choir Concert

The u3a Choir is holding its annual joint concert with Crewe Male Voice Choir on Friday 10 May at 7.30pm in the Wesley Centre. The concert is supporting the work of the Wesley Centre and this is an opportunity for u3a members to thank the Centre for making its premises available to us.

Tickets (£8.00) are available from Choir members and from the Black Cat Café, Welles Street.

21st Birthday Celebration Walk

The Long Walking Group invites u3a members to join them on a 10-mile walk around Sandbach (excluding the section on the wrong side of the motorway), following the parish boundary as closely as possible and using sections of the South Cheshire Market Towns Trail, via Malkins Bank, Wheelock, Moston, Elworth and Bradwall.

Meet at the Lower Waitrose Car Park at 9.00am for arranging into parties of manageable size. One party will have the option of a longer walk taking in Tall Chimneys. There will also be the option of extending the walk slightly at the end to include the new pathways along Filter Bed Way.

The walk is mostly across fields and tracks, with some roads/pavements. There are four somewhat rickety stiles. Toilets are al fresco.

The route crosses bus routes at Wheelock and Elworth in case you need to leave the party.

Bring:

  • Boots or strong walking shoes – there may still be muddy sections if the rainy weather continues.
  • Clothing suited to the weather on the day – including rain.
  • Refreshments – there will be a coffee stop and a lunch break.
  • A piece of card or paper with your name and ICE contact details to give to your party leader.

Please note that these arrangements are subject to change on the day.

Would anyone wishing to take part please send their name and membership number to Kate Ashcroft – Ashcroftkate@aol.com

Holmes Chapel u3a Beginners Bridge

This is a 6-8 week “taster” course starting in Mid-May on Tuesday mornings to learn bridge with a view to continuing in September.

Anyone interested would need to be a member of Holmes Chapel u3a, currently £6 to join. Further information on joining and registration for the group is available on their website https://www.holmeschapelu3a.org.uk/index.php

New Treasurer for our u3a needed

Our treasurer, Keith, has done a brilliant job  but will be resigning in September for personal reasons. We will need a new treasurer from September 2024. We can’t run our u3a without a treasurer. If you have any kind of financial skills, please consider taking on this really important post. Everyone on our Committee is incredibly supportive and they are a great team to work with. You will be able to work alongside Keith until September to help with the transition. If you think you might be interested or you just want to talk about the possibility, please contact the chair, Linda Bilsborrow 01270 760615 chair@sandbachu3a.org.uk, or the treasurer  treasurer@sandbachu3a.org.uk.

Gift Aid

The state pension has, of course, just risen significantly and so many more of our members will be paying tax.

If you are now paying tax we can claim gift aid which gives us 25% of your membership fee at no extra cost to yourself

You can log in to your profile and set the gift aid flag, you could email membership@sandbachu3a.org.uk or just pop a note into our box in the library.

Laptop Needed

As many of you will know every 2 weeks we have a volunteer at Sandbach Library to sign up new members and deal with any issues from existing members. What would really help would be if we could have a laptop for these volunteers to access our website and deal with any questions regarding groups and membership. The laptop need not have a large memory but be able to access the internet through an appropriate browser. We’d love to hear from you if you have a spare (perhaps old) laptop that you no longer need and are willing to donate it to our u3a.

If you would like to become a library volunteer you’d be very welcome and appropriate training would be provided.

If you have a spare laptop or would like to volunteer please reply to this email
