The September quiz from Julie Clarke has been loaded to the website and is ready for you to test your general knowledge. (Our quiz page lists all the quizzes that have been set previously.)

Face to Face

A quiz night has been organised for Wednesday 8th November 2023 in St Mary’s Church Hall, Sandbach at 7 p.m. for 7.30 p.m. start
Teams should consist of up to 6 members and give themselves an identifying name . Participating teams (maximum 24) should send their team name and name of the team contact to kev1dea2@gmail.com. Closing date for entries will be Saturday 4th November.
There will be an entry fee of £1.50 per person which will be used to cover the cost of the hall. Any money left over will be used as prize money.
Members may bring along refreshments to share with their team, i.e. drinks (plus glasses) and nibbles for consumption during the evening.
Julie Clarke will devise the quiz, ask the questions and reveal the answers. Kevin Dean will keep the scoreboard up to date.
The six members of each team can confer together to obtain an answer to the questions which will then be marked by an adjacent team.

Looking for an exciting new challenge for 2024?  This could be just what you need!
Caring, committed, multi-talented and forward-looking Committee with good sense of humour would like to meet:

potential vice chair, with similar outlook and some time to spare, for fun, laughter and long-term relationship.
Candlelit dinners and romance out of the question, but personal satisfaction guaranteed.

If you have read this far you could be just the person we need. Here’s what is involved in the role of vice chair:

    • Interact with chair and immediate past chair as part of a ‘chair trio’
    • Attend Committee meetings
    • Deputise for the chair as necessary
    • Have opportunities to attend local Cluster and Regional events
    • Be responsible for communication across our u3a*
    • Manage the roll out of theAGM*
      * Established framework already in place

There will be an induction period to help you find your feet, as well as loads of support from the chair and other Committee members. Please consider this opportunity if you think you have the right skills to take this on. October Members’ Morning

The next members meeting is at Sandbach Town Hall on Monday 2nd October. The welcome return of Joy and Kevin Siddall with their talk show ‘A Musical Meander Around Britain’. Joy and Kevin perform with The Monday Mondays (an A Capella choir) and are vocalists with The Broadway Big. They are always a big hit when they attend our members meetings so come along and join in.
P.S. No need to bring a flask and sandwiches as tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

National u3a News

u3a Interest Groups Online Fair

The online community for u3a, Interest Groups Online, is holding a fair from 2 – 6 October. This is an opportunity for people to try different groups before making the decision to join, either in addition to to their local u3a membership or on its own.

Local News

New Bereavement Support Group in Sandbach
A new, non u3a,Bereavement Support group which starts in Sandbach at the Literary Institute, Bradwall Road, CW11 1AE on Friday 29th September from 2.30 – 3.30pm.  To book a place and for more information please contact Carole Salmon on 07923 125 662 or carole.salmon@rightathome.co.uk.  Right at Home has very kindly funded the project, as well as offering their office space for the group sessions.

New Stroke Survivors Group in Sandbach
A new group for Stroke Survivors is starting on Wednesdays, 11am to 1pm at Sandbach Rugby Club, Bradwall Road, Sandbach, CW11 1RA.  The Group Coordinator is Arthur Harding with Management support from Liz Bedson and Katie Hughes.  For more information about the group please visit https://strokesurvivorsgroup.co.uk/, 01270 335061 or email Strokesurvivorgroup.gmail.com.   The group are also running awareness sessions at Ashfields Surgery in Sandbach on the following dates:
