Walks will be for those who enjoy the excitement of high level walking, generally above 600 metres (2,000 feet).

An appropriate level of fitness is necessary.

Costs per meeting 50p plus shared fuel (20p per mile) and parking costs if required. Payment in advance of £6.00 for the year.

If you’re interested in joining or require any further information please contact the Group Leader via the group page on the website –https://u3a.simplemembership.co.uk/Sandbach/Groups/walking—high-level

Gardening

The current Group Leaders are stepping down at the end of June and we are looking for volunteers with an interest in plants/gardening who would be prepared to take over the organisation of the group.

You do not need to be a gardening expert, but must be happy to organise the meetings and/or garden visits. The meetings take place at Sandbach Library on the last Friday of the month from 2.00-3.30pm

In the past we have had a range of speakers giving talks on a variety of gardening topics, plants swaps and visits to numerous gardens.

Help and support to plan the programme of activities for the 2023/24 season will be provided by previous leaders and members of the committee, so you will not be alone in pulling this together!

If you’re interested and think you may be able to help, please contact the Groups Co-ordinator groups.co-ordinator@sandbachu3a.org.uk

Table Tennis News

Members of Table Tennis Group 5 have just completed their second season in the Crewe and District Table Tennis League finishing a credible 4th in the first division.  Competition was considerably tougher than the previous season and the overall standard of play was much improved.  The team continued to play under the name of Post Office JS Sports.

The highlight of the season was that the team reached the final of the Victory Cup only to go down to a team from Crewe Central in a hard-fought match.  Proving that table tennis is a sport for all ages the average age of the opposition was 19 whereas the average age of The Sports was 70!  The team on the night comprised Dave Bunting, Phil Beeden and Malcolm Edge and were well supported by our reserve Ian Sharp along with family and friends.

Here is a photo taken on the night of the competing teams.  To avoid any confusion the Sports are in the red shirts!

Coronation Big Help Out Sandbach: Pick, Plant & Paint

To mark His Majesty The King’s Coronation thousands of organisations across the country are getting together to give us all the chance to help out in our own local communities.
Sandbach Partnership are co-ordinating a 3 hour #Big Help Out volunteering event for all local residents. We need your time (together with a paint brush, trowel or litter picker) to brighten our town.

As variety is the spice of life we have five opportunities to get involved:

    • Volunteer with Friends of Sandbach Station in their annual spring planting and spruce up of the local train station
    • Volunteer with the Garden Trail to pick weeds and/or litter at the Scotch Common area in the town centre
    • Volunteer with Sandbach Clean Team to paint the litter bins and cauldrons in the town centre
    • Be part of the mini-sweeps on the cobbles reaching the parts that machines cannot (ideal for those primary age or below)
    • Litter pick in your local neighbourhood and share your pictures

This event will run from 09:30am until 12:30 on Monday 8th May.

To thank you for your time and contribution the event will be followed by light refreshments:

Time :12:30 Venue: St Mary’s Church, High Street, Sandbach CW11 1AL

Registration is for monitoring numbers at the various activities and post event refreshments. To register or more information about The Big Help Out initiative please visit their website.
