Sunday Afternoon Tea & Cakes. Every second Sunday
Wesley Centre, Sandbach 2pm-4pm
Meet Ron, a reluctant attendee. He went in expecting the worst.
Going
An afternoon with the u3a? Not that lot again!
“Sweet treats” and a brew – and it’s forecast rain!
Molly, my love, this is right up your street.
But me? Cakes and a cuppa? People to meet?
I know what you’re thinking – you know my refrain,
I’d rather watch paint dry or clean out a drain.
There’ll be noise and folk that I mostly don’t know
What do you mean “just go with the flow”?
Alright I’m going – but how to be dressed?
It could be quite hot – I’ll just wear my vest
That blue jumper then, the one that you made
I keep it for best, though it’s starting to fade.
You had an eye for colour, knew just what would go.
I’d wear the same shirt for shopping or show.
If you were here now, you’d say with a sigh
Ron – your collar’s all wonky but I do like that tie!
Right – I’m going – I’m off – leaving right now.
But half an hour only, that’s all I’ll allow.
Coming back
Don’t say a word Moll – two hours – two!
I said only one cup. Then, well… time just flew.
A grand bunch of people – and what a good do,
Though I was Don, John and Tom to name but a few
The cakes were ok – not a patch on your crumble,
The tea? On the weak side – but I’m not one to grumble.
Cricket-mad Mick was there – had a good chat
His group meets on Mondays – I might think about that
There’s Brass Band and Brewing, Bowling and Bridge
With Zumba and Yoga, I might slim down a smidge?
Had tea with some choir folk who knew you so well
But warbling for me? My own personal hell.
There’s Painting, Pilates and Photography too
And surprisingly most involve cakes and a brew.
After short walks and long walks, it’s lunch at the pub
It seems that our members have a thing for their grub
Did I enjoy it? – I had a passable time
I’ve said it before – Ron and Fun don’t rhyme
Will I go again? – it’s possible – I may
I won’t rule it out – don’t get carried away
