Moira Egan

Venues Coordinator

I moved to Sandbach from Southampton just over 2 years ago.  I have three adult children who live in different parts of the country and due to ongoing health issues, it made sense to move close to one of them. Hence, I now live near to my youngest daughter who is settled with her family in Elworth. I’m extremely fortunate and have four very happy grandchildren!

I retired in June 2021 after working as a paediatric nurse for over 40 years. During that time, I had been a ward sister for many years, then specialized, (as opportunities arose), in Children’s Asthma, Children’s Allergy and Cystic Fibrosis, in Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield. I left the NHS in 2012 to work with a healthcare company, providing education, support and administering medication to patients in their own homes.

Prior to moving from Southampton, I joined the u3a locally, and was aware that becoming involved in u3a activities is a great way to meet people and make new friends.  So I joined the u3a in Sandbach and have met some wonderful people, which has made it easy to settle into a new area which now feels like ‘home’. I would say that among the Sandbach u3a activities, there is definitely something for everyone!

Towards the end of last year, I responded to an email requesting volunteers and now I am Sandbach u3a Venues Co-ordinator. The committee members have been very supportive, helping me to settle into the role. It feels good to be able to contribute to the running of the u3a which gives so much to the community.  I do have some mobility restrictions, but I am able for the most part, to carry out the role from home.

Dancing, walking and the outdoors used to be my passion, but as this is more difficult now, I enjoy reading, crafting, learning French, making the most of life and spending time with friends!
