The Book Exchange – A new venture for the New Year
Hello Everyone
Some of you may remember the Book Exchange from the anniversary celebrations earlier this year. It was a joint venture by all the Sandbach U3A reading groups of various sorts, who contributed books and manned the desk. Some of you may have visited us then.
The books contributed were ones that members had enjoyed and thought others might enjoy too. Some put short notes in their books, saying why they’d enjoyed them. Other U3A members were invited to bring in a book of their own and to take another away, or sit and read and talk about books. It all worked pretty well and a number of people who came said it was something they’d like to see it happening on a regular basis. We thought we’d give it a go.
So, starting at the January members’ morning (06/01/25) there will be a book exchange table at the back of the hall from about 9.30. Members are invited to bring a book or books and take one from the table, all very simple, and we’ll see how it goes. You can even take a book without giving one if you wish, but it’d be good to have an exchange.
What needs to be clear though, is that this isn’t an alternative to taking your bag of unwanted paperback to the charity shop. That’s not what we want and we could not cope with the numbers or the weight! We’ll have to take the boxes of books away and store them between meetings.
The books you exchange should be those you’ve really enjoyed, that mean something to you and you want to share with others. For the last book exchange I gave a book that I loved so much I bought another copy to keep! I realise that’s a bit extreme, just an example.
So, do come along in January, have a look and exchange a book. It will be great to see you!
Thanks
Linda Ross and Sandy Boyle.

Dementia Friendly Sessions
Following on from mentioning these in the last update, there has been a lot of interest. Dave Whitmore says “I am doing further online Dementia Friends sessions all on a Wednesday at 7pm on January 22nd, February 12th, March 5th and April 9th. I would be more than happy to run a face to face session here in Sandbach for u3a members if there are a few who would like one.” If you are interested in a face to face session let me know and I will pass your message onto Dave.
