Please help the organisers by following these rules for booking a place:

  • To book an outing see one of the social committee in Sandbach Library between 9:30 am and 11 am on the date shown.
  • If you are not able to take your place on a trip, please inform the organiser.
  • If someone else will take your place on a trip, please give that person’s name to the organiser.
  • Please be at the departure point (normally the Military Arms) 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
  • Please ensure that the organiser has ticked off your name before you board the coach.

Chatsworth Country Fair on Friday 1 September 2017 costing £30

Anything that is organised in a country setting will be on display here. There will be horses, dogs, ducks, birds of prey, celebrity chefs, hot air balloon pilots and on and on. Rather than reading some words copied from elsewhere, go to the Chatsworth Country Fair website and see for yourself the variety of things to see. Don’t forget to steel yourself at the market stalls to avoid buying gadgets that look great in the demo but will just gather dust when you get home.

The bus leaves the Military Arms in Sandbach at 09:30 and returns at 17:30.

Trip to Merseyside on Thursday 21 September 2017 costing £19

The coach leavs the Military Arms in Sandbach and takes the group to Port Sunlight, where those seeking culture may visit the Lady Lever Gallery. There is also a garden centre. From there to New Brighton for your own seaside frolics or lunch and then to Seacombe to take the Mersey ferry to Liverpool pierhead, where the coach will wait to bring you back to Sandbach. All the while Jeff & Lu Burnand will be on hand to explain.

Tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk in Sandbach library.

Holiday in Exmoor & North Devon – 8th to 12th Oct 2017  prices from £469 pp

We will spend 4 nights at the 4* AA Rated Imperial Hotel Barnstable. The itinerary includes visiting quaint harbours and traditional seaside towns including Clovelly, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Minehead and the Exmoor National Park. Train Trip to Bury Market on Wednesday 25th October 2017 costing £25

If you think this is familiar, you are right. This trip is a repeat of the one in June to cater for the numbers who were unable to buy a ticket then. Those of you who have fond memories of steam trains and shopping before supermarkets arrived can combine these interests in a trip to East Lancashire. The coach takes you at 9 am from the Military Arms in Sandbach to Bury, where you can tour the massive market and fill your bags with the local black puddings as well lots of other culinary delights. The coach then takes you to Bury station for your return trip to Rawtenstall on a steam train of the East Lancs Railway. While you are steaming along, the staff will serve afternoon tea at your table in the Sandbach U3A carriage.

Tickets will be available from the U3A desk in Sandbach library on Wednesday 8th March between 9:30am and 11:30am. Thereafter tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk.

Sunset Boulevard Theatre Trip on Wednesday 1st November 2017 costing £34

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece Sunset Boulevard will be coming to the Palace in Manchester and you can join the trip to see it.

In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded silent-screen goddess Norma Desmond lives in a fantasy world. Impoverished screen writer Joe Gillis, on the run from debt collectors, stumbles into her reclusive world and is seduced by her and her luxurious lifestyle. Joe becomes trapped in a claustrophobic world until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free, with dramatic consequences.

If this story appeals to you, buy a ticket at the members’ morning on 3rd April. Thereafter tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk in Sandbach library.

Trafford Centre on Monday 13th November 2017 costing £7

The casual observer might think this is a shopping trip but there was a surprising lack of parcels on the coach coming back last year. You may have a good look at all the wares on display and make yourself feel better by saving your money. Or you could stimulate the economy. It’s your choice.

Worcester Victorian Fayre  on Friday 1st December 2017 costing £12.50

Miss Saigon Theatre Trip on Thursday 12 April 2018 costing £50

The story goes as follows: In the last days of the Vietnam War, 17-year-old Kim is forced to work in a Saigon bar. There she meets and falls in love with an American GI named Chris but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For three years Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he’s fathered a son. If you still want to see the show, tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk in Sandbach library.

The coach takes you at 9:30 am from the Military Arms in Sandbach toManchester where you may enjoy its many delights until the matinee performance starts at 2:30pm in the Palace Theatre.

Holiday in Greenwich in May 2018 costing from £327

There will be a four night break on 18th May 2018 to Maritime Greenwich on a Bed and Breakfast basis. There is a variety of restaurants and eateries in close proximity to the hotel for other meals.
A full itinerary includes a City cruise on the Thames, a visit to the Cutty Sark, a local guide will give us a walking tour of Greenwich ending at the National Maritime Museum then some free time to explore at leisure.
