Please help the organisers by following these rules for booking a place:

  • To book an outing see one of the social committee in Sandbach Library between 9:30 am and 11 am on the date shown.
  • If you are not able to take your place on a trip, please inform the organiser.
  • If someone else will take your place on a trip, please give that person’s name to the organiser.
  • Please be at the departure point (normally the Military Arms) 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
  • Please ensure that the organiser has ticked off your name before you board the coach.

Shopping at Boundary Mill on Monday 27 Feb 2017 costing £9

Now that Christmas is a distant memory, dip your toe into the retail waters and see what you can find at the Colne branch of the Boundary Mill empire. The coach takes you from the Military Arms at 9am and returns you and your purchases later.

Tickets will be available from the U3A desk in Sandbach library between 9:30am and 11:30am on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month and then at the Social Mornings in Sandbach Town Hall.

Billy Elliot theatre trip on Thursday 16 Mar 2017 costing £47

Billy Elliot the Musical has won ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards and has been seen by over 10.5 million people across five continents.
Based on the highly successful film, the show is set in a northern mining town against the background of the miners’ strike and follows Billy’s journey from boxing to ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.
It has run for ten years in London and the touring production of this inspiring show is coming to fans across the UK giving us a chance to visit the Birmingham Hippodrome theatre.

Tickets will be available from the U3A desk in Sandbach library on Tuesday 3rd May between 9:30am and 11:30am. Thereafter tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk.

Holiday in Royal Norfolk & The Broads – 14th to 18th May 2017  prices from £495 pp

We will be staying at the AA 4 star Sea Merge Hotel in Overstrand, Norfolk – a lovely hotel with a commanding seaside position, set in five acres of well-tended gardens.  A full programme includes entry to Holkham Hall built for the First Earl of Leicester, visits to Sandringham, Norfolk Lavender, a ride on the Norfolk railway and a cruise on the Norfolk Broads with free time in Cromer.

Bookings will initially be taken in the Marriott room, Sandbach library on 17th November 2016, between 9.15am and 11.30am.

Day Trip to York on Tuesday 16th May 2017 costing £10

The coach will leave Sandbach from the Military Arms at 9am and take you to the picturesque city of York. In your time before you are brought back to Sandbach, you can visit the shops, the Minster, the museums or take a tourist ride on the river. Just enjoy the city.

Steam Train Trip to Bury Market on Wednesday 14th June 2017 costing £25

Those of you who have fond memories of steam trains and shopping before supermarkets arrived can combine these interests in a trip to East Lancashire. The coach takes you at 9 am from the Military Arms in Sandbach to Bury, where you can tour the massive market and fill your bags with the local black puddings as well lots of other culinary delights. The coach then takes you to Bury station for your return trip to Rawtenstall on a steam train of the East Lancs Railway. While you are steaming along, the staff will serve afternoon tea at your table in the Sandbach U3A carriage.

Tickets will be available from the U3A desk in Sandbach library on Wednesday 8th February between 9:30am and 11:30am. Thereafter tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk.

Cruise on the Manchester Ship Canal Sunday 9 July 2017 costing £44

Our coach takes us from Sandbach to Salford Quays where we board the ship for the 6 hour journey to Liverpool. A commentary is provided to inform passengers of the sites we pass along the way. After disembarking in Liverpool, we take the bus home.

Funny Girl Theatre Trip on Thursday 20th July 2017 costing £41

Funny Girl brought global fame to Barbra Streisand 50 years ago and boasts some of the most iconic songs in film and theatre history, including People and Don’t Rain On My Parade. It tells the story of Fanny Brice, whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star. Our trip catches the touring production in Llandudno.

Tickets will be available from the U3A desk in Sandbach library on Wednesday 11th January between 9:30am and 11:30am. Thereafter tickets will be available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from the U3A desk.

Trip to Merseyside on Thursday 21 September 2017 costing £19

The coach leavs the Military Arms in Sandbach and takes the group to Port Sunlight, where those seeking culture may visit the Lady Lever Gallery. There is also a garden centre. From there to New Brighton for your own seaside frolics or lunch and then to Seacombe to take the Mersey ferry to Liverpool pierhead, where the coach will wait to bring you back to Sandbach. All the while Jeff & Lu Burnand will be on hand to explain.

Holiday in Exmoor & North Devon – 8th to 12th Oct 2017  prices from £469 pp

We will spend 4 nights at the 4* AA Rated Imperial Hotel Barnstable. The itinerary includes visiting quaint harbours and traditional seaside towns including Clovelly, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Minehead and the Exmoor National Park. Sunset Boulevard Theatre Trip on Wednesday 1st November 2017 costing £34

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece Sunset Boulevard will be coming to the Palace in Manchester and you can join the trip to see it.

In her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, faded silent-screen goddess Norma Desmond lives in a fantasy world. Impoverished screen writer Joe Gillis, on the run from debt collectors, stumbles into her reclusive world and is seduced by her and her luxurious lifestyle. Joe becomes trapped in a claustrophobic world until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free, with dramatic consequences.
