Founded in 2003, and affiliated to The Third Age Trust (the UK national organization), the Sandbach & District U3A is a registered charity (number 1105144) and has (in February 2016) over 1200 members, with over 80 activities for members to enjoy. It is a member of an informally organised group of U3As comprising Alsager, Biddulph, Cheadle, Congleton, Crewe and Nantwich, Leek, and Macclesfield Rural and is part of the North West Region of the Third Age Trust.
Members or people who are considering membership may find out about Sandbach & District U3A by downloading the Handbook for Members and the Group List. The Group List shows all groups, with details of meeting place and time, and a short description. This document contains over 30 pages. A paper copy is available for reference only at the U3A desk in Sandbach library, but you may print your own copy after downloading it.
Five times a year members receive a copy of the magazine Third Age Matters from the Third Age Trust delivered by Royal Mail. We also publish information on this website and news items by email to members from time to time.
A committee, which meets monthly, manages your U3A according to the constitution which is available on this web site. It is elected at an AGM held in October each year. Members are invited to get themselves nominated and take an active role in the running of Sandbach U3A.
Committee members man an enquiry desk in Sandbach library on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and outside those times there are notices on a board at the back of the library.
The cost of running Sandbach U3A is met by an annual subscription (£8 for the 2015-2016 season) and a small payment (50p to £2.50) for attending each meeting of a group. Group activities take place mainly in hired venues but some groups meet in the leader’s home or the open air, for example: walking, bird watching and environmental action.
The greatest expenditure is the hire of venues for meetings and members are encouraged to suggest to the committee any new venues that become available in the Sandbach area.
Finally comments and advice are always welcome via a group leader, a committee member or at the library desk.
