Sandbach U3A Newsletter – January 2014

1. New Group – ‘An introduction to Reiki’.

This proposed group will initially be programmed for Monday mornings from approx. 10.15 – 11.15 in Elworth Methodist Church Hall, with a start date in late January or early February to be announced. Spaces will be limited, but anyone who wishes to join or obtain more information should email the programme organisers at Sandbachu3aprogramme@live.co.uk , who will pass on their details to the group leader.

2. Computer (Personal Laptop) Course – Places Available

After an initial 8 week course, the Computer (Personal Laptop) course will now continue for a further 8 weeks commencing 9th January 2014 and there are two places available for anyone who would like to join.

The group meets in the CVS building in Hope Street every Thursday at 10:30am. Group members are required to bring their own Windows 7 (sorry, not Windows 8 yet) laptop computers to use in the class.

3. January Social Morning

On Monday January 6 in the Masonic Hall, Sandbach Pete Turner gives a talk entitled “Through the Eyes of a Magician”.

He gives an insight from a magician’s perspective when performing the impossible to the audience in their logical world.

This highly recommended lecture is packed with demonstrations to illustrate the power of misdirection within the art of magic. Coffee will be served from 10.00am and the talk starts at 10.30am

4. Trip to Woodland Brewery, Nantwich –

It is proposed to visit the Woodland Brewery on Tuesday 11th of March 2014. Coach travel to and from the brewery would be arranged from the following pick-up points around Sandbach (Foresters Arms Winterley, The Military Arms Sandbach, Abbey Road Elworth and Hind Heath Road Wheelock). Pick up times would be between 11:00 – 11:30.

On arrival at the brewery there will be a guided tour with the head brewer, and there will also be unlimited drinking and a buffet. People taking the special brewery tour can usually buy bottled beers at a discount to take away with them.

Total price is £25 comprising: coach fare £4 (provided that 42 people wish to travel), the brewery tour is £15 per person and £6 for a combination of a finger buffet and a buffet style curry.

If you would like to go, please call into Sandbach Library on either 8th or 22nd January to see Barrie Hacking who is organising the trip. Payment should be made when you book the tour. Alternatively, you can book a place on the trip by emailing Barrie at u3abrewerytour@gmail.com

5. U3A National Office Mailings

Information is received on a regular basis from the Third Age Trust. Items that are relevant to members will be posted on the website (www.SandbachU3A.org.uk) and the notice board in Sandbach Library. Please keep checking them to discover events and activities that might interest you.
