National Memorial Arboretum & Lichfield Cathedral Wednesday 18 July 2018 costing £12
This year is the centenary of the end of the fighting in World War 1 and it seems like a fitting activity to visit this site containing over 350 thought-provoking memorials, each with a story to be discovered. The memorials are diverse in nature, rich in symbolism and collectively represent a broad population of society from military associations, charitable organisations, emergency services, fraternity groups and individuals. Each year new memorials are added so there’s always something new to see.
There are also temporary exhibitions set up on this 150 acre site and, for the nature-lover, there are 30,000 trees through which you can walk.
Lichfield Cathedral has been a place for worship and learning for around 1300 years, and it continues in that tradition to this day. It also boasts a cafe where you can take refreshments indoors or out depending on the summer we get.
Tickets will be available from 28 Mar 2018 on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at the U3A desk in Sandbach library.
