Diary Update – September 2018

This message contains a brief monthly update to let members of Sandbach U3A know about new opportunities.

Members’ Meeting in September

Help for Heroes (H4H) is a charity launched on 1 October 2007 to help provide better facilities for British servicemen and women who have been wounded or injured in the line of duty. Pam Leese is a Volunteer Local Coordinator for Cheshire and will talk about their work at the meeting in Sandbach Town Hall on Monday 3rd September. Refreshments will be served from 9:30 and the talk will commence at 10:30.

Sign Up Day Wednesday 29th August 2018

The annual event to add new members to groups will be held in the Wesley Centre CW11 1DG between 10am and noon. You can add your name to a group, if it has vacancies, or find out more details from the leader. Please be aware that the Wesley Centre car park is quite small and will be reserved for disabled members during this event. Because Chapel Street will be closed to cars on 29th August, the car park there will be unavailable. The Westfields car park will be open as usual but if you decide to park on the Aldi car park, they allow only 90 minutes. Park for longer than that and you will face a parking charge.

New Groups

We have leaders prepared to start the following new groups. If you are interested in joining either or both of them, send a message to group.co-ordinator@sandbachu3a.org.uk or leave contact details at the Help Desk on Sign Up day

Art Appreciation

2nd Friday of the month – afternoon – subject to confirming a suitable venue

The group would meet monthly for an illustrated talk on the artist, school of painting or era.

You do not need to have an extensive knowledge of art history; this group would be for anyone who would just like to learn more.

You would be welcome to join in any discussions or just come along and listen.

There will be some organised visits to galleries offered.

Sequence Dancing

Wednesday weekly – 10.30-11.30am – subject to confirming a suitable venue

Learn to Sequence Dance, it is just like Ballroom Dancing only you have a fixed pattern of steps, which you all do together round the dance floor.

The music will be a variety of slow, medium and fast for dances like the Foxtrot, Waltz, Saunter, Blues, Quickstep, Tango, Mambo, Samba, Rumba, Swing, Salsa and Jive

Diaries

The diaries for 2019 have been ordered but have not arrived yet. If they arrive in time for Sign Up Day (29th August), they will be on sale then. They will be available afterwards a) at the Members’ Meeting in Sandbach Town Hall on the 1st Monday of each month and b) at the U3A desk in Sandbach library on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday morning of each month from 9.30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The next year’s diary colour is burgundy and costs £2.50.

Group Showcase in March 2019

At the Members’ Meeting on Monday 4th March 2019 there will not be a speaker. Instead, groups have the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity. If your group produces something you want to show off, this is your chance. With this early notice you have the chance to prepare whatever sort of display or performance is appropriate. Reply to this message or contact any committee member to book a slot.

Committee Additions

At the Annual General Meeting in November, the committee is looking to replace some of the present members, who have reached the end of their three-year period of office or are unable to continue. Suitable candidates will have experience or enthusiasm for administrative or secretarial work; positions to be filled include secretary, treasurer and booker of venues.

As a registered charity, the roles listed in the constitution must be filled or Sandbach U3A will be unable to continue. This is not a threat or a statement of crisis; it is a legal requirement of being a charitable organisation. Sandbach U3A has been lucky in finding good candidates for committee roles in the past and there are sufficient members with suitable skills, who can contribute to the continuing good health of the organisation. If you want to put your name forward to join the committee, reply to this email or contact any committee member.

We shall issue a more detailed newsletter in October 2018. To share information about something that has happened or is going to happen, please send details to newsfeed@sandbachu3a.org.uk

This message goes to each member who has provided an email address to the membership team. If you know of someone who doesn’t use email, please pass on the contents of this message to them. All group leaders are requested to ensure that all their members receive the diary updates, which can be printed for reference if required.
